You might not remember the Echoplex Tape units from way back when, but if you do, you smile because they goosed up your sound so sweetly, that sometimes you didn’t need the tape delay, because you loved the preamp so much. Well no, is it a coincidence that MXR puts out a preamp pedal to emulate that sound? No conspiracy theory here, that is just the case, and it’s is as simple and solid as it is efficient. One simple control, a Gain knob to provide you with up to 11 db of boost. Once you start getting around 7, it starts breaking up a bit too. Try placing it in different spots in your effects chain, and see what happens.
